About Joan Landry
I grew up in Louisiana where most of my family has lived since the 1700's. I received a Fine Arts Degree at Louisiana State University, worked with Dr. George Lowery author of "Louisiana Birds"; as well as illustrating textbooks for other professors at LSU . I have always painted and art runs in my family, one of my ancestors Pierre Joseph Landry is a well known early Louisiana artist and has his works in the Louisiana State Museum as well as the New Orleans Art Museum. I lived several years in Georgia and in Augusta I enrolled at the Medical College of Georgia and received an MS in Medical Illustration. I moved to New Orleans to work as a medical illustrator at the Tulane Medical School. and lived in the French Quarter where it was easy to continue my interest in fine art and I had works in several galleries. Tulane offered other educational advantages and I received an MSW degree in Social Work at Tulane. After which my husband and I moved to California. I continue my interest in the art world and belong to several local art groups and have won awards in California and Louisiana. At present I enter shows and exhibits in both states, my 2 sisters are also artists and sometimes we do shows together.
I like to do a variety of subjects and have worked in oils, water color, pen and ink, and wood cuts. At present I am doing mostly acrylics. I like to experiment with different styles and approaches to the subject. I addition to art i am interested in genealogy, history and classical music I am also a docent at the Sate Capitol in Sacramento.
